While learning to read music is definitely an important skill at the piano, it’s not necessarily superior to reading chord charts. Reading chord charts is an entirely different skill than reading music notation. ![]() This is definitely a smart approach to learning the piano, but unfortunately, many methods never expose pianists to another way of learning to read music – reading chord charts and lead sheets. Many people learn start out learning to play the piano by learning to read notation on the staff.
